Policies

The following information has been assembled to communicate policies in an accessible way for you. Please read through periodically or as a reference if you have any questions about whether to reschedule your appointment.

  • Identifying Airborne Illnesses & Protocols: COVID, Flu, Cold

    • If you should come down with COVID, the flu, a cold, please do not enter the practice space without communicating with your therapist as much before 48 hours prior your appointment as possible out of respect for your therapist, your community, and your own body’s healing process.

    • Once you have COVID, the Flu or a Cold, your body is working hard to fight the infection and hands-on treatment is contraindicated. Hands-on treatment increases blood and lymph circulation, which can spread the virus faster throughout your body and may make your symptoms, such as congestion or fatigue, feel worse.

    • Following is a reminder of the difference between each and how many days to allow so you and your therapist can reschedule your appointment. Once you have rescheduled, the best course of action is to rest and hydrate. If this is not easing your symptoms, you may want to contact your PCP or Urgent Care first so they can help you assess whether more emergency support is needed.

      • COVID:  please note that you cannot tell the difference between COVID and the flu due to overlapping symptoms. COVID is more dangerous than the Flu and rapid testing is a way to identify if you have COVID.

        • The first 1-2 days before symptoms is the highest contagion period. With the onset of symptoms/testing positive, allow 10 days after for your system to recover before engaging in hands-on treatment.

      • Flu (more severe than Colds):  this hits hard and fast with fever, body aches, severe headache, cough and can lead to severe complications.

        • The first 1-2 days before symptoms is the highest contagion period. With the onset of symptoms/testing positive, allow 10 days after for your system to recover before engaging in hands-on treatment.

      • Common Cold (milder than Flu):  cold begins milder with runny nose, sneezing, sore throat, rarely causing fever or severe aches and resolves without significant issues.

        • The first 3-4 days of symptoms is when you are most contagious. Please allow 6-7 days after symptoms appear for your system to recover before engaging in hands-on treatment.

  • Cancellation/No Show Policy

    • We encourage you to communicate with your therapist with as much time before 48-hours prior your appointment if you are or have come down with the cold/flu/COVID symptoms or have an active rash.  This allows your therapist to help decide whether it is best to cancel/reschedule your appointment.

    • NEW in 2026: Our cancellation policy is now 48-hours prior your appointment.

      • 72 hours/3 days before your appointment, you will receive an email reminder from our reminder/scheduling system. On the day prior treatment, you will receive an additional text with a code to our door.

      • Advanced notice of cancellation/reschedule more than 48 hours prior your appointment is welcome and appreciated.

      • 48 hours/2 days prior your appointment is considered a 48-hour Late Cancellations, and you will be charged 25% the fee of the appointment length.

      • 24 hours/1 day prior your appointment is considered a 24-hour Late Cancellations, and you will be charged 50% the fee of the appointment length.

      • For a No Show, you will be charged 100% the full fee of the appointment length.

  • Alcohol and Tobacco Request & Policy

    • Please do not consume alcohol prior to treatment. Combining treatment with alcohol only increases the toxic load on the body. It also desensitizes a person to pain, and clouds judgment.

    • Please refrain from smoking the day of your treatment. Smoking masks the client’s ability to feel tensions and agitations through the body and mind, therefore creating false feedback for both the client and therapist to release areas that may be contributing to feelings of anxiety, agitation, or depression to name a few.

    • Should you arrive having consumed alcohol or partaken in tobacco use, no treatment will be given and half the fee of the session will be charged.

  • Hygiene and Scent Free Policy

    • Hygiene:

      • Showering before a treatment is highly valuable for hygiene, showing respect for your therapist, and enhances the treatment's effectiveness by relaxing muscles, opening pores, hydrating skin and tissue, improving circulation, mentally preparing you for relaxation, and making it easier for your myofascial system to receive therapeutic benefits.

      • This is a list of skin-borne diseases that are spread by direct touch. Please communicate with your therapist and reschedule your appointment should you contract any of these:

        • Conjunctivitis, warts, molluscum contagiosum, shingles, herpes simplex, impetigo, staph infections (including MRSA), ringworm, athlete's foot, scabies, lice.

        • Though poison ivy rash is not contagious by touching blisters or fluid, you can pass this on through the ivy oil residue on skin, clothing, pets, tools.  Please let your therapist know if you have been in contact with poison ivy so the therapist can decide what they are comfortable with in bringing the oil into the practice site.

    • Scent Sensitivity:

      • Winter is a time when the air is drier and dehydration can more noticeably affect the respiratory system causing more irritation and sensitivity. With this, please refrain from the use of perfume or scented body products - ideally this includes detergents and hair products.  Light use of essential oils are natural and more tolerable for most people if you are wanting an alternative.

      • During the other seasons, please continue to refrain from use of perfume or scented body products - ideally this includes detergents and hair products as our collective practices have many scent sensitive clients. Light use of essential oils are natural and more tolerable for most people if you are wanting an alternative.

    • NSAIDs and Tylenol

      • We understand the use of NSAIDs (Advil, Motrin, Aleve, Aspirin) and Tylenol when you are not here for treatment.

      • It is also our responsibility to communicate that NSAIDs or Tylenol are contraindicated for your safety prior to treatment. It is important that you are able to feel your pain (or numb areas) so we can communicate about depth of pressure, increase in pain, decrease in pain, numb areas starting to feel again. Any type of painkiller deprives your ability to sense in your body and communicate with your therapist as to whether engagement/pressure into the body is too much or too little. Myofascial release in particular is about being able to feel into our bodies and be in our bodies. As of 2026, we are re-stating that we cannot work with clients who are taking prescribed painkillers such as Gabapentin.
